Importance of a Refresher Course

Importance of a Refresher Course
Each year thousands of people get killed and over millions get injured in work related accidents. Again, millions of workers suffer from illness caused by their work. In every industry, the odds of an accident or illness occurring are always there.

With all these facts, preventing work related accidents and ill-health is a key priority for everyone at work. Employees are an asset to their organizations and with them being happy and in good health, any organization can experience great profits. Workers are not always aware of the importance of refresher courses and think it is unnecessary as they have been doing their job for years. But this refresher training is just a reminder that danger can still exist and since no one can escape accidents or injuries, they therefore have to understand the purpose and importance of these training programs.

The purpose of an 8 hour HAZWOPER training course is to promote safety and create awareness among employees who are exposed or partially exposed to work site chemical hazards. The course objective is to ensure that the workers at hazardous sites operate in a safe manner.

On completion of the course, trainees will learn the following points:
  • Understand how to handle and identify hazardous materials as well as human responses to exposure.
  • Learn all about Health and Safety Plan (HSP)
  • Implement knowledge and proper action in case of site emergencies
  • Use appropriate work practice controls and safety methods
  • Recognize signs and labels used to alert personnel of danger
The above points are important and can help workers be safe and healthy at such jobs where danger is lurking in every corner. However, what workers must remember is that a training is only effective when they understand and implement what they have learned.
